Experiment 3: Tour of my Bridge

The Theory: Creativity is enhanced through the exploration of spaces. The bridge contains a network of bridges and pathways which lead to creative spaces of the university. The building is a cave in a sense that students are limited to the confines of the bridge, just like you are limited within the confines of the wall in a cave. The exploration through the bridge leads students to creative spaces of the school; influencing and inspiring the student to be creative.

Experiment 3: 5 Real Image captures of developed Cryengine Environment + My Levels download

The bridge spans across the canyon, connecting both sides with its metaphoric cave-like structure. The bridge uses organic materials, somewhat adapting to the environment the bridge is situated in.

Throughout the bridge, each section and corner offer a different pathway to a different creative space. This somewhat creates wonder to where the path would lead you.

Experiment 3: 4 Real time images of Draft Cry Engine Environment

This environment is situated in the Grand Canyon called the "Horse Shoe Bend." I created the environment to be as realistic as possible, searching for different textures that closely match the environment of the Grand Canyon. I also took care to how the cliff faces were shaped, making sure to follow the eroded indentation on the cliff wall created by the rain.

The environment is best illuminated at sunset, also known as the "golden hour," where shadows are best casted.

Experiment 3: Applying textures

Linear: This texture gives a sense of speed in a linear motion through the gravitational pull in the tunnel leading into the lecture hall. This is also the same case when exiting the lecture hall.

Rotational: This textured wall (rotational) is located in the library.  This texture demonstrates the network flow of the bridge, where students will repetitively go around the spaces, especially the library.

Transitional: This texture represents the transition between the metaphoric cave to a somewhat more open environment/folly, which views the bridge from a different angle.

Experiment 3: Sketchup model (two elevators + folly download)

Folly
 Elevator 1: Dean of School
 Elevator 2: Students

Folly: This folly was inspired by my perspective drawings, which will ultimately bring both the dean of the school and the students together for a monthly "deans lunch". It features a large platform for a select number of students, as well as a docking station for the dean of school. This architectural folly is a get away from the enclosed spaces of the bridge, however still an inspirational space to view the bridge from a different perspective.

Elevator 1: The elevator is open with front panoramic views of the building when moving to the valley floor, which will dock onto the Folly.

Elevator 2: Elevator two also features panoramic viewing for the students, however they view the landscape rather than the building as they can view the bridge from the folly.

The lifts will be demonstrated in a video

Experiment 3: Mashup

The Theory: Creativity is enhanced through the exploration of spaces. The bridge contains a network of bridges and pathways which lead to creative spaces of the university. The building is a cave in a sense that students are limited to the confines of the bridge, just like you are limited within the confines of the wall in a cave. The exploration through the bridge leads students to creative spaces of the school; influencing and inspiring the student to be creative.

Experiment 3: Elevator

The elevator starts in the middle of the valley and moves towards the outside edges of the "horse shoe." As the elevator pulls outwards from the centre, the field of view widens at the same time allowing full perspective of the environment.
Later on this environment will contain buildings, where this elevator will lead into a landing zone at the peak of the horse shoe.

THE IMAGE CAPTURES AND ARCHITECTURE

My electro-liquid aggregation quote:

"The organic structures isolated in a natural environment not only integrates itself into its surroundings but also becomes the main focus of the landscape"

1) Ken Yeang - Monument 1 represents the integrating of a building into its environment. This structure somewhat mimics rock shelves/cliffs protruding out of the mountain face. Although it is made up of organic rectangular shapes, I tried to integrate it into its surroundings by using a mix of natural materials (stone, timber) and my own textures.

2) Simple monument composed of organic shapes, structured to mimic a tree. I feel the monument compliments the island it is situated on. The island contains little vegetation, which brings the focus more on the monument.

3) The meeting point for architecture students is located in between both monuments. It contains a log benches, a fireplace and two brick structures which "frame" the architecture when situated at the right angle. Benches behind the brick frame provide a point where students can sit and observe the architecture through the frame. (This can be seen in the post called "Landform". Click here to view)
